A girl with a dark history…

Avery Breslin took a leap of faith when she changed her name. As Avery Patterson, she is no longer the daughter of a serial killer. No longer the girl who was bullied and abused through high school. A fresh name and a fresh start at Columbia University means Avery can leave all that behind. There’s only one thing marring her dream of a clean slate….

A boy with a past of his own…

Luke Reid has a lot going for him: sex appeal, badass tattoos and insane musical talent. Despite his guitar skills, his calling in life has always been to serve and protect. A NYPD cop by day, singer in rock band D.M.F by night, from the outside Luke seems like he’s got it made. But falling for a girl whose father was accused of deeply sinister acts—a man whom Luke shared a devastating history with, himself—only serves to complicated things.

Pieces of a puzzle…. Four symbols, four methods of destruction. A trade. Borrowed wings. Dark secrets that threaten to destroy.

About the Author:

5834274Callie has experienced many changes throughout her life, and gone through many ups and downs that have all worked towards shaping and molding her into the person she is today: fun loving, active, social, and hard working. The only thing that has remained a constant throughout her life is writing. Creating characters who will tear your conscience in two is a favorite pastime of Callie’s. There are few real saints and sinners in her books; more often, the denizens of her stories are all very human. Broken, flawed, and always with the potential for redemption.
Despite the subject matter being markedly hot and heavy in comparison to the stories she wrote in elementary school, there will always be an element of fairy-tale to her work.

Tammies Review of Winter

Sam O'Brady. Jefferson Kyle. Adam Bright. Sam O'Brady. Jefferson Kyle. Adam Bright.

"I had this dream that once I escaped the confines of Breakwater, things would change for me, things wouldn't be as hard, but I haven't taken any chances. My family name is synonymous with pain and murder no matter where I seem to go, and that's why I've abandoned it. That's why, when I left my past behind in small town Breakwater Wyoming to come to college, I became Avery Patterson."

Avery Patterson thought her freshman year was about figuring out what you wanted to major in. Laying the ground work for achieving a degree. As she tells her best friend Morgan. But Morgan has other plans that include a lot of party going. Avery is attending Columbia University in New York. A dangerous place for a young women to be out at night by herself. Avery wants to maintain her grades she has high hopes in becoming a journalist. She gives into Morgan invitation to go to a frat party that gets a little loud and the police are called. Just as Morgan and Avery are leaving the police shows up and BAM! Her past has caught up to her. Hes a hot cop with a band on the side, Luke Reid.

From here on Avery can't keep her past behind her. Luke and Avery have a past. People move on with their lives all the time. They move away from home. They get new jobs and they fun from their crappy pasts. Luke tells her he has tried to find her thru his connections at the police database. But she tells him she has changed her name. That she didn't want........ Luke understands her reason for her name change.

Luke had a full ride scholarship to college thru football but he passes the chance by and goes to the police academy. Hes in a band and is pretty well known for his singing. He was a cop back in Breakwater for a few years before moved to New York. Luke had a special bond with Averys father that she doesn't know about or could she understand it without Luke letting his past catch up to him? Luke and his partner were the first ones on the scene from Avery's father death. Luke had only been on the job four days. He puked in Averys mothers rose bushes when he had to got tell Amanda St. French of her husbands death. She changed her name after his death to keep her clear of his name and what he had done. Luke tells Avery he wants to call her and catch up. Avery doesn't want this. She wants her past to stay in her past but after seeing Luke she isn't sure she can do that.

Avery's mother has been paying for her daughters college tuition along with giving her a generous monthly allowance. Amanda St. French wants nothing to do with her daughter after abandoning her back in Breakwater. It was only Avery and her Uncle Brandon that went to the funeral her mother didn't even show up. Avery and her Uncle Brandon spend the holidays together now without her mother since she doesn't want Avery in her life. Avery spends some time with an Irish exchange student. Hoping this would keep her mind off Luke. But he has his own issues and Avery cant handle it in the end. Hes not who she thought he was to begin with.

Since Luke has been back in Avery life her past keeps showing up more and more. She cant escape it anymore and things happen to her when she tries to see someone else to help keep her past at bay. Her best friend has some demons in her closet that Avery finds out about and her roommate Leslie isn't who she appears to be. Avery's identity is revealed at college and Casey Luke's ex girlfriend adds to the mixture of it all. Every door Avery opens it gets slammed in her face and she finally turns to one person that can help her thru it.

Can he help her clear her fathers name? Can he help her clear her demons along with his own demons without hurting Avery in the end? What are Morgan's demons and where does Leslie, Averys college roommate fit into all this. Leslie is always so prim and proper. What is she hiding?

I loved the mystery in this book and the characters all were very well described in their roles in the book. This kept me on the edge of my seat all the way thru the book. Luke a "Hot Cop" a member of a up and coming new band D.M.F. sizzles the pages with his alpha role. Avery the pretty girl that just wants to get her degree and tell the truth as a journalist and not the lies that other journalists tell.
There are so many reasons to read this. Its a great story with great characters. One that will end with the question what the hell was that? How could that be? It does have a H.E.A. But I know theres going to be another book and I cant wait to read more about Avery and Luke.
